SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills Qualified and Unemployed Grade IV Association would hold a sit-in protest at the Parking Lot near the Additional Secretariat on Thursday from 11 am.

The Association is holding the sit-in protest to pressurize the State Government to extend the period of the merit list of the qualified candidates who are eligible for appointment to the various Grade IV posts.

Earlier, the Association had given a four-day deadline to the Government to comply with their demand.

Recently, Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly, Conrad K Sangma, had also urged the State Government to appoint all those candidates who are in the merit list declared by the East Khasi Hills District Selection Committee for appointment to the various Grade IV posts.

According to the Leader of Opposition, the candidates had filed RTIs and found out there are 169 vacant posts in various departments.

Out of the 331 qualified candidates in the merit list, Sangma said only 122 candidates have been appointed while the remaining 209 candidates are still awaiting their turn.
