NONGPOH: In a bid to impress the Congress higher ups, Nongpoh MDC Dr Celestine Lyngdoh, who has sought the party ticket to contest from Umsning, paraded his supporters before the state Congress chief DD Lapang on Thursday at the latter’s Shillong residence.

Following this, a special meeting was held which was attended by Lapang, Dr Lyngdoh, Umsning Block Congress Committee president C Kharkongngor among others.

In the meeting Lapang informed that as the MPCC president he had recommended Dr Lyngdoh’s name for the party ticket for Umsning constituency.

Lapang said the party high command would take the final call between two ticket aspirants — Dr Lyngdoh and Donlang Sohkhlet.

However, all is not well in the Congress camp of Umsning Assembly Constituency with the Election Organizing and Campaign Committee of the Umsning Block Congress and other frontal bodies of the party backing the candidature of Meghalaya State Level Public Grievance Committee vice chairman Donlang Sohkhlet.

The decision to back Sohkhlet was taken in a meeting held at Umsning Youth Assembly Congress Committee’s office on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by members of the committee, leaders of Mahila Congress and 116 leaders of the Polling Booth Primary Units and former Nongpoh MDC C B Syiem deputed by the Ri Bhoi District Congress Committee.
