Aizawl: A senior Civil Aviation official in Mizoram today claimed ignorance about the reported decision by Air India’s subsidiary ‘Alliance Air’ to withdraw ATR services between Aizawl and Guwahati from January one next year.
The authorities at Lengpui Airport near here said that the proposed discontinuation of the air service between Aizawl and Guwahati was communicated by the headquarters, but without attributing any reason.
Air India officials, on the condition of anonymity, said that the service was withdrawn as the North Eastern Council failed to make payment on subsidies to Air India.
NEC officials, recently informed mediapersons in Shillong that air services between the capital cities of the north east states were very poor, while the NEC paid a large amount of money on subsidies.
Lalhming Liana, the lone Rajya Sabha member from Mizoram and member of the Consultative Committee on Civil Aviation said that the government should intervene on the matter. (PTI)
