Army Corps Day celebrated with fanfare

SHILLONG: The Military Hospital Shillong celebrated its 249th Army Corps Day (AMC) with traditional fervor and ‘espirit de corps’ among army men here on Tuesday.

A Pagal Gymkhana, which consisted of games and seminars besides other events, was also organized.

Commandant of the Military Hospital, Brigadier AP Radhakrishnan who presided over the function, stressed on the need to dedicate themselves to the health of Armed Forces.

The programme commenced with the traditional march past by the smartly turned out troops and officers of the corps of AMC.

A variety of entertainment programmes including sport and athletic events, fun games for all ranks and their families was also organized. Officers, Nursing officers, PBORs and their families took active part in the celebrations. Basketball matches, volleyball matches, tug of war, sack race, three legged race and several other fun filled games and athletic events were organized to celebrate the day. A Taekwondo martial art demonstration was also part of the event.

The Army Medical Corps was raised in 1764 by the East India Company as Bengal Medical Services, which later on became the present day Army medical Corps.
