SHILLONG: East Garo Hills police is yet to file charge-sheet in connection with the December 13 Williamnagar rape case in which an 18-year-old girl was gangraped by a group of 16 boys while returning from the Simsang Festival.

Although 15 out of 16 accused had been arrested, it is alleged that police is dilly-dallying the filling of the charge-sheet. Among the arrested 8 were minors and they are kept in juvenile home and the rest are in police custody.

It may be mentioned here that recently police claimed that charge-sheet was filed, but later changed its version saying the same would be done in a few days time.

The trial, which is supposed to be conducted every week as per the request of the Director General of Police following the absence of a Fast Track Court, is yet to take place. When contacted, President of the Achik Youth Welfare Organisation A Momin said till date, there has been no progress in the case, the 16th accused is still at large. “It seems the police are not following up the case and the district administration is taking the matter lightly,” Momin said adding that the only good thing that had happened till date was that the victim received Rs 25,000 as relief. It is learnt that the girl has been released from the Williamnagar Civil Hospital.
