SHILLONG: East Garo Hills police finally arrested the 16th accused of the Williamnagar gang-rape case from Cherangre, Tura on Thursday morning.

The 17-year-old minor, who had been absconding since the gang-rape of an 18-year old girl in Williamnagar, was nabbed from his sister’s house. The accused hails from Jakopgre village in East Garo Hills.

The East Garo Hills police, however, are yet to file a chargesheet against the 16 accused in the December 13 rape incident. The police had recently claimed that the chargesheet has been filed only to change its version later stating that the same would be done in a few days time.

With the arrest of the 16th accused, the number of juveniles involved in the case goes up to nine. The case of eight juveniles has already been taken up by the Juvenile Justice Board while the remaining accused are in police custody.

The trial, which is supposed to be conducted every week, as per the request of the Director General of Police following the absence of a Fast Track Court, is yet to take place.

Minor raped: Meanwhile, a month after a rape case was registered with the police at Pynthorbah against a 15-year-old boy, fresh report has been gathered that the victim, a 4-year-old minor was also raped by one Andrew Rani (22).

Following confession by the four-year old, it was found out that prior to the FIR filed against one minor for raping this girl on December 8 last, the little girl was raped twice by Rani.

It was only after the arrest of the minor that the crime committed by Rani came to light.

The girl in her statement before the magistrate mentioned that she was raped not once but several times, sources informed.

The magistrate directed that the name of the second accused be added in the first FIR.
