JOWAI: Former MDC from Tuber executive member of the UDP, Jaintia Hills District Unit, Helping Phawa, quit the United Democratic Party (UDP) on Tuesday citing personnel reasons.

Phawa was elected as MDC from Tuber Constituency on a Congress ticket in 2004 but lost the election in 2009 as a UDP candidate.

Sources informed that Phawa is a strong supporter of Amos Dkhar, the Congress candidate from Khliehriat in the forthcoming Assembly election.
