JOWAI: Independent candidate for Nartiang seat, Hillarius Dkhar, on Tuesday clarified that the huge amount of cash detected by a joint village Defense Party (VDP) of Rakabah, Nongrim, Bambthong, Mukbu, Kdiap, Laru and Umbluh villages, belonged to one of his friends who is a prominent businessman.

“The allegation made by the joint VDP is aimed to tarnish my image in the society”, Dkhar said in a statement issued here.

According to Dkhar, on Saturday he along with some of his friends were on their way to Rakabah village and on reaching a place called Lumpyrhut, a group of women appeared on the scene and asked them to stop.

“They (women) claimed to be VDP members and while checking my vehicles they spotted two poly bags containing cash,” Dkhar said, while denying that he had challenged or abused any of the women as was being alleged.

It may be mentioned that on Saturday last a joint VDP from seven villages detected a huge amount of cash with Dkhar while they were conducting a raid to seize illicit liquor.
