SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has downplayed the disgruntlement among the Congress legislators following denial of the party ticket, saying that this would not affect Congress’ prospects in the upcoming elections.

“The Congress will get absolute majority”, Dr Sangma told reporters when his comment was sought on the Congress list.

The Congress has at present 28 legislators in the 60-member House.

The Chief Minister reminded that in 2008 Assembly elections, out of the 15 sitting legislators who contested the elections, only two were elected.

According to Dr Sangma, the Congress looked at the winnability criteria while allotting party tickets, though it was a hard decision. He also said that the Congress has a mechanism to address the grievances of the aggrieved party men.
