SHILLONG: A day-long special programme was held on Saturday at the RamaKrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre on account of National Youth Day and launching of the yearlong celebration of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda in Shillong.
Governor RS Mooshahary besides officials of the centre as well as students were present on the occasion.
In the function, the Swami Vivekananda 150th Birth Anniversary Celebration Committee also submitted a memorandum to RS Moooshahary urging him to direct the PWD to install signboards at both ends of the existing Vivekananda road as this will add more befitting tribute to the spiritual leader.
Meanwhile, hundreds of youths on Friday took out a unique cultural procession in the city on the eve of the Birth Anniversary Celebration of Swami Vivekananda.
Villagers from Wahkhen, Pynursla, dressed in traditional attires, took part in the procession and showcased the unique cultural traditions of the State to pay their respect to Swami Vivekananda.
