300 Mizoram villages to have internet kiosks

Aizawl: Rural information kiosks (RIKs) with internet connectivity will be set up in selected 300 villages in Mizoram, which will not only enhance communication in the remote areas but will also create job opportunities for educated jobless youths.
Disclosing that Rs 489 lakh had been allocated for the establishment of 300 RIKs, Zodintluanga said this was the fulfillment of one of the Congress party’s election manifestoes – to develop IT in the state.
Services like tribal certificates, birth certificate, residential certificates, land registration, property registration, electricity bill, water bill, telephone bill, public grievances, inner line permit, different taxes, air ticketing, train ticketing, insurance, mobile phone recharge, will be available in the RIKs. The RIKs aim to improve communication between government administrators and citizens by building an interactive district/block portals to disseminate information and submit grievances
The RIKs will also provide the villagers with access to quality healthcare to the rural citizens of the state through e-medicine and e-consulting.
The RIKs are being implemented under PPP mode. Each VLE will be provided with VSAT equipment, computer set, laser printer, scanner, printer copier, photo printer, digital camera and others. The maintenance cost will be borne by the VLEs.(UNI)
