Kohima: The Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer has constituted District Level Standing Committees under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioners, who are also the Returning Officers to monitor the Model Code of Conduct of the Election Commission of India (ECI), while political parties of the state are gearing up their activities for the forthcoming Assembly elections in Nagaland to be held on February 23.
The present term of the current 11th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, ruled by the Naga Peoples Front (NPF) led Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN), ends on March 18 and before which the new house is to be constituted.
According to the state Election department, there are 11, 81,731 voters in Nagaland included in the electoral roll.
The elections will be conducted at all polling stations through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
Despite the efforts on Summary Revision of Electoral rolls, it has been reported, that there are several instances of multiplicity of entry of names.
However, the state Election Department failing to complete Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC), the same cannot be now made mandatory.
The political parties are also gearing up their activities throughout the state and the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee having the Election Committee meeting was held today and the NPF led DAN party also convened a big meeting at the NPF Headquarters today.
The Nagaland unit of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has convened a meeting today at its head office at Jory Pukhuri, Dairy Farm road, Purana Bazar, Dimapur, to discuss matters relating to the forthcoming election.
However, the details outcome of the meeting is yet to get. Nagaland unit of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has formally declared the candidature of T L Semdok Phom for 50 Longleng Assembly Constituency during a massive rally in Longleng town. Mr Semdok had recently resigned from the post Vice President NPF, Central, and joined the NCP. (UNI)
