NONGSTOIN: Over 415 dissident members of the youth from Mawshynrut’s HSPDP and the UDP on Wednesday held a meeting at Nongkyna Village in West Khasi Hills District.
Chairing the meeting, Augustine Thongni, Secretary of the HPDP Youth Wing of Mawshynrut, appraised the August gathering about the aims of the meeting. He told them the meeting was called for discussing and deciding the fate of the people of Mawshynrut in the upcoming polls. Members of the HSPDP were disappointed by the way the HSPDP candidate Witting Mawsor, neglected the youth of the area, Thongni said. He also added that the meeting was called to discuss such issues of discontentment.
Ex President of the KSU Mawshynrut Circle and also the incumbent president of the HSPDP Youth Wing of Mawshynrut, Gardinar Sohshiang in his speech said that youth from the area are confused as to whom they should support as there were twelve candidates from the constituency. He expressed disappointment over the lack of development for over a decade in Mawshynrut. He also said that it is surprising that most of the youth of Mawshynrut are yet to see the face of the incumbent MLA of the area.
Sohshiang pointed out that none of the previous MLAs have highlighted the aspirations of the people at the Assembly, especially with the creation of the Mawshynrut Civil Sub-Division.
Sohshiang confessed that he was also an aspirant for the party ticket. He further told the gathering that Eugene Kharlukhi, is the most deserving candidate whereas Witting Mawsor is using his ‘money power’ to ‘purchase’ the HSPDP ticket. Sohshiang alleged that Mawsor had violated the policies of the party and forced them to seek other avenues.
After a lengthy deliberation and discussion, the meeting called Methodious Dkhar Congress candidate of Mawshynrut and informed him of their decision. It Mawshynrut, Eugene Kharlukhi was the front runner for the Congress ticket. With the ticket allotment to Witting Mawsor the HSPDP had suffered a major split in the party.
