SHILLONG: Justice (retd) SP Rajkhowa, who had conducted the Shillong jail break probe, breathed his last after suffering from cardiac arrest on Tuesday night in Guwahati.

His funeral was held on Wednesday.

Rajkhowa (82) complained of chest pain on Tuesday after which his son took him to International Hospital in Guwahati where he was declared dead.

It was on January 11 that Rajkhowa had submitted the jail break probe report to Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma.

After handing over the Judicial Inquiry report, Rajkhowa had admitted that it was a painstaking task to complete the job, but he had expressed his happiness over being able to hand over the report in time.

Earlier, the Rajkhowa inquiry commission could not complete the Judicial Inquiry report on the Meghalaya House deal during the tenure of then Chief Minister EK Mawlong after the commission was aborted by the former Chief Minister FA Khonglam.
