CSWO petition on FIR

SHILLONG: The Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) has filed a petition before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate here to call for the report of the police based on the FIR registered against those involved in the manipulation of marks in the appointment of teachers, unearthed by the CBI.
It was in November last that the CSWO and Meghalaya Right to Information Movement (MRTM) filed the FIR urging the police to initiate the investigation.
The petition was filed before the court on Wednesday urging the Court to seek the report of the police regarding the investigation.

JOWAI: The Dorbar Elaka Sutnga in East Jaintia Hills has decided to support Independent candidate, Hopeful Bamon, for Sutnga-Saipung seat in the upcoming Assembly election.
The Dolloi, Elaka Sutnga informed that the Dorbar Elaka held on Monday had decided to support Bamon.
“Elaka Sutnga has been left behind in terms of development. We have decided to support Bamon as we believe that he can bring about change to the Elaka and the Constituency as a whole,” said a statement issued here.
Sutnga-Saipung will witness a triangular battle between sitting Congress MLA Shitlang Pale, Narpuh MDC MS Tyngkra and Bamon.
Eye camp at Mawkynrew

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Youth Foundation (MYF) in collaboration with Mission Trust, Bawri Netharalaya, Shillong and the NSS Unit of Holy Child Higher Secondary School, Demthring conducted a Free Eye Check-Up Camp at Mawkynrew village, East Khasi Hills district on January 18.
Over 120 people from Mawkynrew, Mawlein, Wah Lyngdoh and New Nongryngkoh were the beneficiaries of the camp.
Some patients were given free spectacles; some were referred for further free eye medical assistance while others were even referred for free eye surgery.
Those present at the camp included the chairman of the Meghalaya Youth Foundation, Joannes JTL Lamare, MYF members and NSS volunteers, programme officer of Holy Child School, doctors and attendants of Bawri Nethralaya, Sordar and members of the Dorbar Shnong, besides others.
People’s parliament

SHILLONG: Hundred of village chiefs, clan chiefs under West Khasi Hills have unanimously resolved to attend the fourth Dorbar Ri – People’s Parliament – to be held on February 13.
In two meetings held at the Office of Syiem, Hima Nongkhlaw and at the Office of Syiem Hima Nongstoin on January 21 and 22 respectively, the Dorbar resolved to urge the Union Government to fulfill the treaty rights under the Instrument of Accession and Annexed Agreement, 1948, which would facilitate the constitution of a separate Article and a separate Council for the institution of the Chiefs (Syiem, Lyngdoh, Sirdar, Wahadadar, Dolloi, Nokma) and Indigenous Institutions of Self Government of the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo people of Meghalaya.
List of polling stations

JOWAI: The District Election Officer, West Jaintia Hills District has informed that in connection with the Assembly Election 2013 the final list of polling stations with respect to 1-Nartiang Assembly Constituency, 2-Jowai, 3-Raliang, 4-Mowkaiaw and 7-Amlarem, within the 1-Shillong Parliamentary Constituency has been published in accordance with section 25 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
The names of the polling station and buildings in which the polling station is located can be inspected at the office of the District Election Officer, Jowai.
Power cut in Garo Hills

SHILLONG: The perennial power disruption continues to haunt the people of Garo Hills with the entire region facing black out from 7 pm on Wednesday.
The fault in the 132 KV line which supplies power to Garo Hills is in between Nongstoin and Mawphlang and the fault locator is being used to rectify the problem, an official source said.
Earlier on three occasions from December, there was break down of power in the entire Garo Hills.
