SHILLONG: Defying the government order the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Pynursla Block, Present S Tynsong, who has been transferred to Agriculture Department, is still holding the post.

The younger brother of Forest Minister Prestone S Tynsong was present at the Pynursla Block Office on Thursday, sources said adding that he, reportedly, signed several files in the capacity of a BDO.

Earlier on Wednesday, Community and Rural Development department issued the transfer order of Tynsong in view of the upcoming Assembly elections.

He is supposed to be replaced by Extension Officer of Pynursla Block, P Suchen.

Meanwhile, close on the heels of the transfer of two BDOs, the government has effected transfer of several Meghalaya Civil Servants (MCS) officers.

According to official sources, more than 20 MCS officers have been transferred from their respective districts and posted in other districts. This is being done to ensure that officers with any type of political links do not influence any political party in the coming elections.

From East Khasi Hills, two MCS officers have been transferred to Mairang and Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills. While no officers has been transferred from other districts to EKH.

There was an inter-changing of officers between East Jaintia Hills and West Jaintia Hills where an officer from East Jaintia hills, Khliehriat has been transferred and posted as EAC of Amlarem sub-division and likewise.

Similarly, in other districts, one or two MCS officers have been transferred from their respective districts and posted in other districts. One officer from West Khasi Hills has been transferred and posted at South West Khasi Hills.

The same goes with the other officers in Garo Hills as well. One officer from North Garo Hills was transferred and posted in Tura, West Garo Hills and in return, another officer from West Jaintia Hills has been posted in North Garo Hills. When contacted, State Chief Electoral Officer P Niak said their (MCS officers) transfer is based on the guidelines of the Election Commission of India where an officer should not be in his/her own home district and another based on the fact that an officer cannot serve more than three years in the same district.
