Transacting a smaller

denomination of Rs

100 is now like searching a needle in a haystack in most of the Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) in Shillong.

Customers complained that the problems by large exists in the ATMs of State Bank of India (SBI) as most of the time the ATMs do not have the currency of a smaller denomination like Rs 100.

While many of the ATMs of others banks do keep smaller denominations, it seems the SBI ATM only has 500 Rs currency in its stock. Most of the customers complained that whenever an amount of Rs 200-300 is entered, the ATM reads, “Requested amount cannot be dispensed.” The non-availability of smaller denominations has become a headache for the employees who have to withdraw their salaries. When contacted, an official of the SBI said that the bank authorities do provide smaller denominations in most of the ATMs.

However, there is a shortage in the supply is also less from the RBI.
