Action to be taken against erring presiding, polling officers

JOWAI: The District Election Officer, West Jaintia Hills, has informed that stern action will be taken against Presiding and Polling Officers who failed to attend the Election Trainings as scheduled.

“Action will be taken as per Section 143 of the Representation Act, 1951,” a statement issued here said, adding that this is the last and final information to all concerned Presiding and Polling Officers in West Jaintia Hills district.

Meanwhile, the Returning Officer for 7-Amlarem constituency has informed the general public falling under the constituency that any offer of cash, liquor, gift items or free food to the electors during election process amounts to bribe. Both the persons, offering and accepting bribe, are liable for punishment up to one year imprisonment with fine.

Flying squads and surveillance teams have been formed to keep watch over such activities during the election process.

Members of the public may inform about such incidents to the Complaint Monitoring Cell of 7-Amlarem constituency in the number 85750-63203.
