Mukul, wife, Conrad join fray

SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma, his wife Dikanchi D Shira and Leader of Opposition Conrad K Sangma were among the 146 candidates who filed their nomination papers on Tuesday.

Dr Sangma (Congress) filed his nomination from Ampati while his wife who is also contesting on a Congress ticket filed her nomination from Mahendraganj.

Leader of Opposition who is contesting on a NPP ticket filed his nomination from Selsella while former Rajya Sabha MP Thomas A Sangma (NPP) and Transport Minister AT Mondal (Congress) filed their paper from North Tura and Phulbari respectively.

Conrad’s elder brother James Pangsang K Sangma (NPP) filed his nomination at Dadenggre civil-sub-division before the returning officer on the same day.

Sitting legislators who filed their nominations on Tuesday are Paul Lyngdoh (UDP) from Shillong West, James K Sangma (NPP) from Dadenggre, ECB Bamon (NPP) from Mookaiaw, Ismail R Marak (Independent) from Dadenggre, John Manner Marak (NPP) from Bajengdoba, Timothy D Shira (NPP) from Resubelpara, Nimarson Momin (UDP) from Mahendraganj, Francis Pondit R Sangma (Congress) from Rongara Siju, Lahkmen Rymbui (Congress) from Amlarem and Metbah Lyngdoh (UDP) from Mairang,

Former legislators who filed their nomination are Provin K Raswai (UDP) from Ranikor, D Plasding Iangjuh (NPP) from Mawsynram, Martle N Mukhim (MDP) from Mawkynrew, Edmund K Sangma (Independent) from Raksamgre, Monidra Rabha (UDP) from Tikrikilla, Kapin C Boro (Independent) from Tikrikilla, Boldness L Nongum (Congress) from Mawthadraishan, Billy Kid Sangma (Congress) from South Tura, Singh Mulieh (UDP) from Jowai and Riang Lenon Tariang (UDP) from Amlarem.

Samajwadi Party candidates who filed their nominations are former legislator Nidhuram Hajong from Mahendraganj, Brening A Sangma from Dalu, Widnald D Marak from Gambegre and former legislator Manirul Islam Sarkar from Phulbari. Prominent businessmen and coal baron who filed their nomination are Leston Wanswett (Independent) from Shella and Nissar Marwein (UDP) from Nongstoin. Women candidates– Arlene M Sangma Congress from Chokpot, Susana D Sangma (UDP) from Phulbari, Dr Jova Marak (UDP) from Rambrai-Jyrngam, Ibarilin Kharsati (UDP) from Shillong North, Dolly K Sangma (NPP) from Mendipathar and Dr Eureka P Lyngdoh (Congress) from Mairang-also filed their nominations on Tuesday. Meanwhile, former District Transport Officer (DTO) Robinus Syngkon (Independent), who was abducted by the GNLA, also filed his nomination from Mookaiaw while former HNLC chairman Julius Kitbok Dorphang (Independent) filed his nomination from Mawhati. Among the sitting KHADC MDCs who filed their nomination are Embhah Syiemlieh (UDP) from Mawlai, KP Pangngiang (HSPDP) from Rambrai-Jyrngam and Adelbert Nongrum (KHNAM) from Shillong North.

In East Khasi Hills, the candidates who filed their nominations are Predecessor Rumnong (UDP) from Pynthorumkhrah, Romeo Phira Rani (BJP) from Shillong East, Philomath Passah (NPP) from Shillong North, Sounder Strong Cajee (independent) from Shillong South, Mehboob K Lyngdoh (NPP) from Shillong South, Bomlversingh Hynniewta (HSPDP) from Mylliem, Ehkupar Nongrum (BJP) from Nongthymmai, Manosha Warjri (KHNAM) from Nongthymmai, Fairly Best Kharrngi (BJP) from Nongkrem, Hamsya Chen (independent) from Mawphlang, Skor Jala (HSPDP) from Mawphlang and Richard D Shabong (CPI) from Sohra.

A total 297 candidates have filed their nominations till date and the remaining will go through the procedure on Wednesday which is the last day for filing nominations.
