Awareness programme for women organised

TURA: A day-long awareness programme on ‘Legal Rights for women and De-addiction’ was recently organized at the Ashram premises in Kuralbhanga, West Garo Hills by the Ramakrishna Seva Samity, Kuralbhanga.

The programme was sponsored by the Planning Department of West Garo Hills District and it was well attended by women from various villages in and around Kuralbhanga.

The speakers emphasized on the dangers of drug abuse, de-addiction processes, empowering of women to form a healthy society and various legal matters regarding ill-treatment of women and children by dominant male members of the society.

The speakers at the programme citing the recent gang-rape cases at Delhi and other places explained the legal rights of women urging them to protest openly against such heinous crimes and get rid of the social stigma of rape victims.

Dignitaries who spoke on the occasion were Dr AK Paul Choudhary, Ms Minakshi Barman, Ms Sima Hajong and Prof UR Dutta.
