Fast track court to hear Williamnagar rape case

SHILLONG: 20 cases of crime against women including the pending trial of the 16 accused of Williamnagar rape case have been forwarded to the fast track court of Tura for speedy trial.

East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Vijay Mantri on Wednesday said that to ensure a speedy trial the cases related to the Williamnagar rape and 19 others were forwarded to the fast track court on Tuesday.

Williamnagar is yet to have a fast track court.

The case was initially taken up by the sessions court and later it was handed over to the court of additional district magistrate.

The 18-year-old girl from Williamnagar was gangraped by 16 boys mostly juveniles near the Sacred Heart School at Williamnagar, East Garo Hills while she was returning home from the Simsang Festival venue along with two of her friends on December 13.

Police have already arrested all the accused.
