NONGSTOIN: NPP candidate of 32-Nongstoin constituency, Set Singh Dkhar, on Wednesday claimed that HSPDP chief Hoping Stone Lyngdoh was a ‘champion’, while adding that all the candidates from Nongstoin considered Hoping Stone as their greatest opponent.

“Defeating Hoping Stone would be the greatest victory,” Dkhar said.

Speaking to media persons after filing his nomination here, Dkhar lamented that despite being a district headquarter Nongstoin was lagging behind in terms of development as compared to other district headquarters.

“Roads, health and education needed to be looked into,” he said.

Dkhar stated that if he wins the election, he would prioritize these shortcomings and bring Nongstoin up to the level of other district headquarters in the State.

Expressing confidence that not less than 7000 votes would be cast in his favour, Dkhar said, “My mission is to maintain consistency with that number which is safe enough to ensure me a win.”

The NPP candidate predicted that his party would win two seats (Nongstoin and Mawshynrut) in West Khasi Hills and one (Mawkyrwat) in South West Khasi Hills.

He also claimed that after the elections the NPP would form the next government along with regional parties, even as he dismissed the idea of a coalition with the Congress.
