Guwahati: Aaranyak, a premier bio-diversity conservation organization based in Guwahati with support from the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) has sponsored three motorcycles for forest and wildlife protection staff working in forests areas of Karbi Anglong and Golaghat district adjacent to Kaziranga National Park with a view to enhancing surveillance by the wildlife protection staff.
One of the motor-cycles was handed over to the Forest Department’s ACF at Golaghat on Friday by Aaranyak official Manas Kr Bhattacharjya to enable forest personnel patrol in chapori (sand bar isles) areas adjacent to eastern part of Kaziranga NP which falls within Golaghat district to ensure that rhinos straying into those areas do not fall easy prey to poachers.
Two more motor-cycles were handed over to the CCF of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Abhijit Rabha on February 1, 2013 by Aaranyak for the same purpose.
It may be mentioned that Aaranyak recently sponsored about 40 batteries for walkie-talkie sets in Kaziranga NP and 30 chargers which was handed over to the Director of Kaziranga NP.
Aaranyak, a prominent biodiversity conservation organization and a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO) as recognized by the Government of India, has taken lead in securing fund from the UK-based DSWF for giving a boost to conservation of wildlife in Assam.
The DSWF has contributed immensely towards bolstering efforts for conservation of threatened wildlife species in Brahmaputra Valley, especially in famous Kaziranga National Park.
The DSWF and Aaranyak had launched a 10 years project on Wireless Communication Modernization in Kaziranga National Park in Assam in 2003.
Since then until 31st March 2012, over 250 wireless handsets, about 50 wireless base stations and 45 solar panels and 500 rain coats for frontline staff were provided. The DSWF and Aaranyak have spent more than Rs 1.5 crores over the years to sponsor the above mentioned equipment.
Earlier DSWF and Aaranyak has sponsored over 20 wireless equipments to Pabitora Wildlife Sanctuary and over 40 wireless sets to Orang National Park during 1998-2000.
Aaranyak in association with the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) handed over two anti-poaching boat camps to Kaziranga National Park authorities on till January , 2010.
The resources required for this second anti-poaching boat camp which was handed over in January , 2012, were raised by Mr David Back representing London Property Industry for Aaranyak and the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation.
The boat was set on the roll by the Governor of Assam J B Patnaik at Pandu Port in Guwahati in presence of forest officials, conservation organisations and members from print and electronic media.
