SHILLONG: Frequent harassment of an ex-husband towards his wife has prompted the
the Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) to seek police intervention.
Referring to the recent violent act of Marshal Kharsati, who tried to hit his ex-wife, B Myrboh with his vehicle, the CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said that the woman and her children became the victims of frequent harassment by the husband and his mother.
Kharshiing alleged that Kharsati hit her with his passenger Sumo on February 5 in Mawryngkneng, while she was waiting for a vehicle to come to Shillong.
According to Kharshiing, Myrboh, a mother of six, was also beaten up by Kharsati
However, a complaint was filed against the woman by Kharsati and his mother by saying that she and her children attacked her ex-husband at Mawryngkneng,
A case is still pending after Kharsati demanded dowry from Myrboh in 2011.
What irked the CSWO is that the police have arrested Myrboh and detained her two children for vandalism and theft, since the son in his anger had snatched his father’s mobile, as he wanted to ring up to call for help during the incident on February 5 , Kharshiing said.
Earlier due to the harassment from husband, Myrboh had approached the Women’s Commission, for help.
She had also lodged a complaint on January 27 with Mawryngkneng police station against Kharsati for threatening her. Police are yet to act on the FIR.
Narrating many abuses meted out to Myrboh, Kharshiing said that Kharsati took a loan in her name and she, had to pay for it.
Since they are separated, she even moved for maintenance as she has 6 children from him and the court had initially granted her Rs 3000 per month for 6 children, as he was working as a vaccinator in District Medical and Health Office, Jowai.
The CSWO urged the SP East Khasi Hills, to monitor the case.
Te organization also urged the authorities to take action against Kharsati for floating Government service rules as he is most of the time driving a passenger vehicle.
