Agartala: Manik Sarkar appears to be the poorest Chief Minister of the country but his name did not find a berth in 20 candidates of ensuing Tripura assembly poll who are in fray with low assets.

Though he retained his position among the Chief Ministers of the country but the assessment shows his total declared assets has increased three times between 2008 and 2013.

The simple logic to be explained his wife retired from Central government service in between and the entire assets are now in possession of the couple, yet he is the poorest chief minister of the country with an asset Rs 24.63 Lac.

In 2008, Sarkar’s cash in hand and bank deposits total Rs 16,120 and this time it reduced to Rs 10,800.

However, the total amount of movable assets has increased from Rs 8 Lac to Rs 24 Lac.

Except D C Hrankhwal, a Congress candidate from Karamcherra tribal reserved constituency under Dhalai district, non other from congress or ruling left front registered as low asset contestants in 2013 assembly poll.

But seven BJP candidates appeared as poor contestants along with eight independent aperients.

Mr Hrankhwal is in fray with an amount of movable asset of Rs 6,697 but immovable asset is zero for him.

He is also a prospective candidate this time who fighting against CPI-M nominee directly in newly created constituency.

Babul Banik has no money or asset but he is in election this time as a SUCI candidate from newly created Suryamaninagar constituency of Agartala after delimitation. (UNI)
