SHILLONG: Continuing his tirade against Dr Mukul Sangma, former Community and Rural Development Minister Saleng M Sangma, who was denied Congress ticket, has said that the Chief Minister did not give him a free hand to run his ministry.
“He (Dr Mukul) regularly interfered with the matters concerning my department. I was not given an opportunity to independently handle the department I was looking after,” Sangma, who is contesting the February 23 elections as an Independent candidate from Gambegre, told reporters recently.
The former Community and Rural Development Minister said the Chief Minister had made him a “dummy” member of the Cabinet.
Saleng said that Dr Sangma was also not very happy to see him as a young leader. “The Chief Minister played politics by denying me the ticket since he felt insecure after seeing my growth as a leader,” Sangma said. On the failed attempts made by militant groups on him, he said, “Militants are being used by certain leaders in the elections and my supporters are not being spared,” adding that even women are being targeted to prevent him from contesting the elections.
