Biography of Thomas Jones to be released

SHILLONG: The biography of late Rev Thomas Jones, Father of the Khasi alphabet, which has been authored by his great-great grandson Dr Andrew J May, Associate Professor of History at the University of Melbourne, Australia, will be released by Governor RS Mooshahary at a function organised by Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) on February 16 at 4:30 pm at Aurobindo Hall, Shillong.

The biography is entitled ‘Welsh Missionaries and British Imperialism: The Empire of Clouds in North-East India’.

A seminar on ‘Culture, Mission and Khasi Life’, to be organised by MLCU at the same venue from 10:30 am to 3:30pm, will precede the book launch. The seminar will be chaired by Prof David Syiemlieh and will feature Prof Andrew May, Phrang Roy, Dr Desmond Kharmawphlang, Dr Sandi Syiem and academicians from MLCU.
