SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Friday claimed that the Congress government-initiated projects and programmes have made positive impact on the lives of people in rural areas.

Addressing a public rally here at Polo during the Prime Minister’s visit, Dr Sangma said the Congress-led Government has initiated different programmes and schemes to address the common issues of backwardness and poverty.

The Chief Minister also reiterated that the Congress is the only party which can provide stability.

“There has never been a single term when a Government was formed without the Congress,” he said, while adding that whenever other parties attempted to form the Government, it lasted for only few months or a year.

He also said that the people should ensure that they vote for a party which can provide a responsible and effective government.

AICC general secretary in charge of Meghalaya, Mukul Wasnik, highlighted the different projects like NEIGRIHMS, NIFT and NIT which the Congress-led Government at the Centre has given to the people of the State.

“If Meghalaya stays behind, India cannot go forward,” Wasnik said, while assuring that the Congress-led UPA Government will continue to provide all assistance to the State.

MPCC president and former Chief Minister, DD Lapang, appealed to the Prime Minister to ensure security to students from Meghalaya and the region in their respective places of studies and work across the country.
