NONGPOH: With just eight days more for the polling day, the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) Ri Bhoi District on Friday exhorted upon the electorates of the district to exercise their right to vote judiciously and responsibly as to whom they are going to shoulder upon the mantle of legislating for them in the next five years.

“The voters should ask themselves two questions before casting his or her voter: whether he/she is electing a legislator or he/she is selling his/her vote for some of money,” said a press communique signed by body finance secretary Shamborlang Nongkling.

If the voters are electing a legislator after weighing the pros and cons of the candidate then it is expected that the legislator from the district will be able to ventilate their grievances and bring about new acts in the floor of the house, the body said.

But if the voters sell their votes for money then it will be a disgrace to the district as the legislator from the district will not be able to contribute anything constructive, the body stated.

Stating that Ri Bhoi District was lagging behind in many areas as there is much needed to be done in the district in terms of education, health sectors, communication connectivity, Nongkling urged the people not to take distribution of blankets, carom board, CGI sheets and construction of footpath of two lakhs as the only mean of developmental works.

Lamenting over the sudden rise of candidates from outside the district contesting the present assembly election, the HNYF warned the electorates of the district against electing them as they are only keen in doing business and are contesting the election with ulterior motives.
