SHILLONG: Though roads were repaired overnight and make shift bamboo barricades were installed in different parts of the city, the efforts went in vain as the two choppers, one carrying Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and the other accompanying it, landed directly at the SCA ground, adjacent to the Fifth Ground, Polo, which was the venue of the Congress rally.

Immediately after the rally, the two choppers took off from the same spot where they had landed.

Residents of the city, however, had no reasons to grumble. “At least some parts of the roads which were full of potholes have been repaired thanks to the visit of the Prime Minister,” some residents said.

The cricket ground where the chopper landed was also covered with clothes to discourage the people from staring at the chopper.

After the rally, some adventurous people made an attempt to glance at the chopper, but the security personnel did not spare a second to hush them off.
