Untimely rain leaves 3 dead, crops damaged

Hyderabad: Three persons have lost their lives in different districts even as crop loss was reported in thousands of acres due to untimely rains that battered Andhra Pradesh since Friday.

Official sources said here today in Aamdavelli Village of Kagaznagar Mandal of Adilabad District, C Satyanaryana (30) and K Bandu (50) were killed when their asbestos shed collapsed in the rains accompanied by strong winds.

In Khammam, cotton sacks got wet, in Warangal, crops on thousands of acres suffered damage and in Janagam, Parakala and Bhoopalapalli, turmeric and red gram crops were damaged.

In Regonda in Warangal District, a shepherd lost his life when a live wire snapped and fell on him due to strong winds.

Train services, which were stopped after trees got uprooted and fell on the tracks between Asifabad and Reban Stations in Adilabad District, were restored this morning.

At the Nakkirakal Agriculture Market Yard CCI Procurment Centre in Nalgonda District, 6,000 quintals of cotton got wet due to heavy rains.

In Warangal District, coal production was affected at the Bhoopalapalli Kakatiya Open Cast Project.

Andhra Pradesh chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, who is in New Delhi attending a meeting convened by AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi, sought details from Chief Secretary Minnie Mathew on the crop loss and asked her to depute special officers for assessing the damage. (UNI)
