Filmmaker Karan Johar,

who has shot a 20-

minute film Bombay Talkies along with three other directors, says the ‘different’ project is a result of passion for Indian cinema.

The film releases May 3, which happens to be the anniversary date of Indian cinema as Raja Harishchandra, the country’s first full-length feature film, is said to have been shown for the first time on this date in 1913.

“It (‘Bombay Talkies’) is to celebrate hundred years of Indian cinema. It has four directors — Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap, Dibaker Banerjee and myself. We all are making the 20-minute short film,” Karan told.

“The film will be releasing on May 3 because that is the anniversary date and ironically, that’s a Friday. It is a different film and definitely what holds all these four films together is the passion for Indian cinema,” he added.

Karan, known for his romantic and family dramas, says he doesn’t have the ability to direct an action film.

The 40-year-old said: “We (Dharma Productions) will make all kinds of films. As a director, I don’t think I can make an action film or a film that has violence in it. I don’t think I have that ability, but having said that, who knows?”

Karan is also said to be working on directing a period drama, which was written by his late father, Yash Johar. “I cant talk about the casting, but right now the film is in screenplay division. I am writing the film as of now, and after two to three months, I will cast for that film,” he said. (IANS)
