SHILLONG: Three days ahead of the Assembly election in Meghalaya, the State Election department suspended the Extra Assistant Commissioner of Mairang, HML Kynta, due to dereliction of duty.

In another development, the Election Commission of India (ECI) transferred the North Garo Hills SP Aditya Goenka to ensure that the election in the district is held under a neutral police chief. Goenka has been replaced by a 2nd Battalion MLP Commandant M Rajamarthandan.

Meanwhile, according to official sources, Kynta was suspended as she was found to have taken her responsibilities very lightly especially during a time when election-related work is at its peak.

“Other EACs are working till late night whereas Kynta is found to be absent from office after 3pm,” sources said.
