SHILLONG: The State Election Department has asked both the DGP and the District Electoral Officer of West Khasi Hills to issue a show cause notice to the personal security officer (PSO) of HSPDP leader HS Lyngdoh for failing to provide security to the veteran leader.

An election official said on Tuesday that the direction has been given to the officials to explain as to why the PSO was not present when Lyngdoh was attacked on Monday.

Interestingly, prior to the attack, the HSPDP had written to the Chief Electoral Officer to provide security to Lyngdoh following which he was provided with a PSO.

Election officials are also ascertaining the reasons that led to the attack on Lyngdoh at the IB in Nongstoin.

Meanwhile, NPP leader Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday expressed shock over the attack on the HSPDP leader and demanded that the culprits should be nabbed immediately.
