SHILLONG: The Border Security Force (BSF) troops of Kuliang outpost in East Jaintia Hills District apprehended six Bangladesh residents while they were trying to sneak into India on Tuesday.

The arrested persons have been identified as Bhurauddin, Tajuddin, Md Lakman Hussain, Samem Alam, Nanty Das and Juber Ahmed, all hailing from Sylhet in Bangladesh.

During the search, BSF sleuths recovered one fake Indian ID Card, signed by Extra Assistant Commissioner, Karimganj besides sim cards and mobile phones from the intruders. Preliminary questioning revealed that the apprehended immigrants intended to go to Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills to work as coal labourers in the area.

This is not the first time that Bangladeshi nationals have been apprehended while trying to infiltrate into Indian soil and the arrests only go on to validate the fact that illegal immigration continues despite opposite claims by the neighbouring nation.

The NorthEast, especially Assam, faces the threat from alleged unabated influx from Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, BSF troops of Phulbari, deployed in West Garo Hills on Monday seized 9104 pieces of Dyclomine Hydrochloride capsules, 1000 Nitrajepam tablets, 1440 Pentazacine Lactate injections worth Rs 30, 000 on the banks Jinjiram river. Apprehended person and seized items have been handed over to concerned departments for further disposal and legal action as per law of land.
