Sex racket busted in city, 11 arrested

SHILLONG: The State police on Wednesday busted a sex racket which was flourishing in a city hotel located at Police Bazar.

Acting on a tip off, police conducted a raid at Bela Lodge in Police Bazar and arrested five females and six males from the hotel.

The arrested males have been identified as Sanjaya Singh of Uttar Pradesh, Davis Sangma, Starling Marak and Ananta Marak, all hailing from Dudhnoi, besides the manager of the hotel, Adhit Chanda. Later, the owner of the hotel Sukanta Paul was arrested from his residence.

It was learnt that Paul had been running the lodge for the past four months.

During the raid, police also recovered notepads and cell phones containing the number of ‘customers’.

Police said they are investigating the matter to know the extent of the racket even as a case has been lodged under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
