SHILLONG: While it is almost certain that the National Congress party (NCP) will extend its support to the Congress in the formation of a new Government in the State, talks are now going on between the two parties in New Delhi to decide the portfolios for the NCP members who would join the State Government.
Talking to media persons here on Saturday, NCP state unit president Sanbor Shullai said that discussions are on between Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and NCP leader Sharad Pawar to chalk out the strategies for a Congress-NCP coalition in the State.
The NCP with two members has extended unconditional support to the Congress for the formation of the Government in the State.
Reacting to a query, Shullai informed that NCP leader Praful Patel spoke to him recently and directed the state unit to form a coalition with the Congress as the two parties are coalition partners in the Centre as well as in Maharashtra.
When asked what led to the poor performance of the NCP in the election, Shullai said that the results were the mandate of the people but the party is still assessing the reasons for the poor performance of the party in the election.
The NCP had fielded 21 candidates out of which only two candidates managed to make it to the State Legislative Assembly.
