SHILLONG: Reported eviction of vegetable vendors from Iew Mawlong market on Saturday have led to allegations that Congress candidate from West Shillong constituency, Mohendro Rapsang, is behind the drive as the vendors did not vote in his favour in the recently concluded Assembly election in the State.

Sources on Sunday alleged that Rapsang along with the police of Syiem of Mylliem forcefully evicted over 50 vegetable vendors who reside in Mawprem and other localities of the constituency.

Rapsang, however, rubbished the allegations while stating that he was not aware of any such incident.

“I am not aware of any such eviction drive. If it has really taken place, then the police of Syiem of Mylliem might have been forced to carry out the eviction drive due to overcrowding of the

market,” he said.

Meanwhile, East Khasi Hills SP, M Kharkrang said that he has received inputs on the eviction drive.

“We are unable to take any action since no formal complaint has been lodged with the police,” Kharkrang said.
