SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) is contemplating to come up with a recruitment board to deal with all matters relating to appointments against vacant posts in the Council.

Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pynshngain N Syiem on Wednesday said that the Executive Council (EC) has taken serious note of the flaws in the Council’s recruitment process.

The CEM was replying to a query by KHNAM MDC Adelbert Nongrum who had questioned the existing recruitment policy in the KHADC whereby vacant posts are filled up without any advertisements.

“We have not issued any fresh appointment for the past one year. We wanted to put in place a transparent recruitment policy to ensure that only genuine and deserving candidates are given appointment,” Syiem said.

Earlier, Nongrum had voiced his concern against the policy of backdoor appointments in the Council.

“I know this kind of practice has been prevailing in the Council for the past several years. We are depriving many deserving candidates from getting appointments in the Council,” Nongrum had said.

Nongrum had also stressed on the need to introduce a transparent recruitment policy to do away with the ongoing backdoor appointments.

“The Executive Committee (EC) should make it mandatory that there should be an advertisement for each and every vacant post in the Council,” Nongrum said.
