AGARTALA: The massive mandate – 52 per cent of the total polled votes – in favour of the Left Front is for peace, development and strengthening of democracy in the state, said Chief Minister Manik Sarkar.
While addressing a victory rally at Vivekananda Stadium here on Thursday, Sarkar said the electors of the state has set a new example in the county as 93.47 per cent turned out was recorded in the February 14 elections.
Thanking the electors for making the Left Front victories in the challenging battle, Sarkar acknowledged female voters’ contribution in victory of the ruling front.
Sarkar, who literally led the party to a landslide victory, assured the seventh Left Front government would leave no stone unturned to fulfill the promises given in the election manifesto.
Asserting that the people are the source of Left’s strength, Sarkar exhorted the ministers and MLAs to work as servant of people. Admitting that there might be loopholes in running the government, he appealed people to identify these issues for taking remedial measures.
Noting that vanity should not touch ministers, MLAs and leaders, he further appealed to hear the voice of people patiently.
Sarkar who voiced concern over the post poll violence, appealed to put an end to such incident.
Chief Minister, in his speech also appealed to the insurgents to shun the path of violence and lead a normal life. “The arms struggle to liberate Tripura is a wrong path. One can’t ensure welfare of people by arms struggle. The government will render full support, if insurgents bid adieu the path of violence”, he added.
Among others CPM general secretary Prakash Karat, CPM state unit secretary Bijan Dhar also addressed the rally. In his speech, Karat thanked the people for land slide victory of the Left Front. Karat also slammed the Congress led UPA government for working in favour of capitalists at the cost of common people.
