SHILLONG: In the last match of the Group C, Shillong Lajong will face Mohun Bagan in a crucial Under 20 I-League match in Jamshedpur on Thursday.
Lajong are currently in third position with three points while Mohun Bagan are sitting pretty in first place with seven points.
In the third match of Group C, the Shillong lads held Air India to a 2-2 draw while the leaders Mohun Bagan won 1-0 against Churchill Brothers. The only hope for the Reds to advance to the next round is to beat Mohun Bagan and also see Churchill win against second-placed Sesa FA in the other Group C game.
Although Thursday’s match will be crucial for Lajong to advance to the final round of the tournament, Assistant Coach Alison Kharsyntiew said, “Whether we qualify for the final round or not, our team will play to win.”
Shillong Lajong FC Under 20 Coach said, “Mohun Bagan are a very good team as well as very well organised. They are strong in their attack but we have no problems because we have a strong defence as Zodin returns to the team from suspension.
“The boys are mentally ready for the game and I believe the the boys will give their best. We will fight to the end and hope we will come out with three points tomorrow.”
