NONGSTOIN: Three youths including two minors from Athiabari in West Khasi Hills district, who went missing on March 8, are suspected to have joined the GNLA.

Two minors and their friend Rechan M Sangma (19), all school dropouts from Athiabari, were last seen on March 8.

One of the minor boys was seen with a bag and he had told some villagers that he was on his way to Guwahati. However, his parents are yet to receive any information about his whereabouts.

The parents and some villagers claimed that Rechan and one of the minors had some family problems.

Another minor had some problems with the Headmaster of Pilingkata Senford Secondary School, where he was a student earlier.

Villagers are of the opinion that these youths have probably abandoned their homes to join the Garo militant outfit.

The families of the missing boys have

lodged ‘missing persons report’ with the Aradonga police outpost. Police have also carried out a search operation at Paikan in Assam and other areas in the vicinity but in vain. Police sources also fear that the youths have joined the GNLA.
