Tripura governor reiterates to upgrade Agartala airport

Agartala: Tripura Governor Dr D Y Patil reiterated the demand to upgrade the status of Agartala airport as an international airport with connectivity to Dhaka and Chittagong of Bangladesh and other South Asian destinations.

Addressing the maiden session of 11th Tripura legislative assembly yesterday Dr Patil stated that Agartala airport was the second busiest airport in Northeast after Guwahati and presently about 22 flights operate to and from Agartala every day.

“These flights are carrying about 2700 passengers in a day, which intensified the demand of up gradation of the airport and the state government is actively persuading the matter with central government .”

He however, pointed out that the presence of 37600 Reang (Bru) refugees was migrated from Mizoram to Tripura following ethnic clash had been rising the problems in the state. In four phases in last three years only 4006 refugees were repatriated after long persuasion but later it was stopped by Mizoram govt raising various issues.

Dr Patil urged upon the centre to resolve the matter and repatriated the refugees at the earliest. (UNI)
