SHILLONG: UDP leader Donkupar Roy on Wednesday asked the government to prioritize the basic needs of the people before initiating any developmental schemes.
Moving a cut motion on the need to discuss the identification, selection and construction of schemes under the C & RD department, Roy urged the government through the department to consult with the local MLAs before initiating any schemes to enable them to identify the basic and utmost need of the area and its people. Stating that there are many wooden bridges in rural areas which are very risky especially during rainy seasons, the UDP leader urged the government to replace these wooden bridges with RCC bridges to ensure the safety of the rural lots.
Reacting to this, C & RD Minister Prestone Tynsong said that the government will look into the matter and admitted the need to hold consultations with the local MLAs in this regard.
