SHILLONG: In the first Group A fixture on Friday, Arunachal Pradesh beat Nagaland 2-1 in the Dr T Ao Memorial Football Tournament at the JN Stadium, Polo.

Nyamar Loyi and Tadar Kojum scored for Arunachal in the 17th and 34th minutes respectively, while Lipok Sashi reduced the margin for Nagaland in the 42nd minute.

This was Arunachal’s second win in the competition (after beating Assam on Wednesday), which took them to second place in Group A and earned them a place in the semifinals.

Nagaland leave this edition of the event winless, which will be a big disappointment to them, as the late Dr Talimeran Ao, after whom the tournament is named, was a footballer from the state.

They did at least score their very first goal of the tournament through Lipok.
