World water day observed in Sohra

SHILLONG: Additional Chief Secretary, Barkos Warjri has stressed on the need to preserve and protect the abundant spring sources of Sohra.

Addressing the United Nations World Water Day which was observed in Sohra here on Wednesday, Warjri implored upon the young students to use water judiciously and to carry forward the same message to their parents and friends.

The United Nations World Water Day was jointly organized by the District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) under the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan and the Office of the SDO (Civil), Sohra Sub-division.

Earlier, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal asked the residents of the area to take steps towards water conservation like rain-water harvesting and to preserve and protect the existing water sources in Sohra.
