SHILLONG: The National People Party (NPP) on Wednesday asked the State government to ‘roll-back’ the clause in the recent notification that was issued pertaining to the appointment of lower primary school teachers under contract basis for 89-days.

Former Leader of Opposition and NPP leader, Conrad K Sangma while talking to media persons here in the city said that the particular clause in the recent notification which suggested that the applicants should at least get 45 per cent in their SSLC examinations was never mentioned in advertisement published by the government.

The Party is also not happy with termination of lower primary school teachers who have been appointed on contract basis even as he said that the Government discontinued their services without any prior information.

“This cold action of the government is uncalled for as these teachers have tirelessly worked for imparting education to children in the rural areas,” he said.

The NPP also expressed its concern over the delay of the government in disbursing the salaries of the SSA and ad hoc schoolteachers.

On the other hand, the NPP also demanded the government to comply with the recent notification issued by the Government of India to enhance the salaries of the SSA and ad hoc school teachers to Rs 9000.

Conrad however said, “The Government should take steps to ensure the teachers in the state gets Rs 9000 as at present they are getting only Rs 6000,” adding “Neigbouring Assam teachers are already getting much higher salary which is Rs 12, 000.”

Meanwhile, the party further asked the Government to clear the pending arrears of the college teachers in the State.
