SHILLONG: With three wins out of three matches, hosts Meghalaya will take a lot of confidence going into their semifinal against Manipur on Monday in the Dr T Ao Memorial Football Tournament, to be played under lights at the JN Stadium, Polo.
The home team, how-ever, could be said to have had an easier grouping, been clubbed with Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh in Group A.
Meghalaya have not yet conceded a goal in the tournament, but their defence has looked like a weak point and they are sure to be tested by Manipur, who are two-time winners of the tournament.
Manipur have only won one game, against Sikkim, and have drawn against Tripura and Mizoram.
A goalless draw against the latter team, however, could almost be thought of as a win, seeing how well Mizoram have played in the competition thus far.
The defending champions started slowly in their first game against Sikkim, but pulled off a thrilling turnaround to come from 1-3 down to win 4-3.
They will face Arunachal Pradesh, who finished second in Group A.
Despite being arguably the weakest of the four teams, Arunachal cannot be taken lightly and the fans that turn out are likely to be in for some thrilling football in both matches.
