SHILLONG: In a case of alleged medical negligence, a baby died soon after its birth following complications. The mother, 22-year-old Monda Beka Marngar, lodged a complaint with the Police that the operation carried out at the Ganesh Das Hospital resulted in the baby bleeding profusely leading to its death.

“My child died due to the gross negligence on part of the doctors operating on me,” the aggrieved mother said.

As per the FIR filed with the Additional SP (crime), Vivek Syiem, Marngar from Myriaw in West Khasi Hills, said that she was admitted to the Ganesh Das Hospital on March 16 for delivery due to labour pain and was also informed by the doctors that she had twins.

“After I was operated upon on the evening of March 17, I heard the cry of my baby and on March 18 at 2 pm, the baby was shifted to Nazareth Hospital on the advice of nurses from the Ganesh Das Hospital.

But on March 20, I came to know that the baby expired”, Marngar said.

According to the mother, she was not allowed to see the baby and could only see its photograph taken by her father after the baby expired.

The aggrieved mother said that her father did not want to show her the photograph of the baby as she was under depression.

“The photo of the baby was shown to me only today and it was evident from it that the baby’s internal organs came out due to some wrong cuts”, she said.

While asking the police to exhume the body and investigate into the matter so that the culprits can be punished as per law, Marngar said, “My child died due to their (doctors’) negligence and moreover, they have not shown the other twin though the tests had revealed that I was going to give birth to twins”.

Marngar said that she suffered from mental and physical agony due to the negligence of the doctors attending to her.

When contacted, the medical superintendent of Ganesh Das Hospital, Dr R Wankhar said that it may be due to a congenital disorder that the complication arose.

“I have to check further on the matter”, Wankhar added.
