SHILLONG: KHNAM general secretary Adelbert Nongrum strongly criticized the decision of the Government to book CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing under Indian Penal Code (IPC) over the allegation that she forcibly entered the Main Secretariat.

“I do not think that there was a breach of security by Kharshiing,” Nongrum said in a statement issued here on Wednesday.

“She (Kharshiing) wanted the rape victim to meet the pressmen in the media centre at the Main Secretariat to air her grievances,” KHNAM general secretary said.

Earlier on Tuesday, Kharshiing was arrested on the basis of the FIR filed by the Meghalaya Secretariat Administrative Department (SAD) Deputy Secretary E Lyngdoh at the Sadar police station alleging that the CSWO president forcibly entered the Main Secretariat building along with three other women.
